Hoop Heroes 2010-2011 Season
Los Angeles, CA – September 7, 2010 – NBA players are teaming up with After-School All-Stars to turn their on-the-court accomplishments into opportunities for inner-city children. Launched last season, Hoop Heroes is a unique partnership among players, corporate sponsors and After-School All-Stars to raise money and awareness for after-school programs. With the help of corporate partners, the program raised nearly $113,000 last season.
“I am happy to be part of Hoop Heroes,” explained LeBron James, forward for the Miami Heat. “Like After-School All-Stars, my foundation also serves families in need. Working together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of more young people.”

After-School All-Stars Partners With Loans4Love To Provide A Unique Giving Opportunity
Los Angeles, CA – August 24, 2010 – Through a new partnership with Loans4Love, a socially responsible mortgage banking firm, the nation’s largest school-based after-school nonprofit organization, After-School All-Stars (ASAS), now provides the public and its supporters a new way to be philanthropic that combines the art of lending with the heart of giving. When prospective homeowners purchase or refinance a new or existing home loan with Loans4Love, they will be able to donate 25 percent of their 1 percent origination fee to ASAS, thereby helping to provide free after-school programs for at-risk youth.

After-School All-Stars to Return to Mammoth Mountain
Los Angeles, CA - April 13, 2010 - Mammoth Mountain, CA – Fifty low-income children from Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Diego will visit Mammoth Mountain as part of After-School All-Stars (ASAS), an organization founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arriving at Mammoth on Friday, April 23, 2010, the children will enjoy three days of skiing, snowboarding and other activities on the slopes of Mammoth Mountain.

Ferrari Offers The Ride of a Lifetime to Assist Inner-City Kids
Los Angeles, CA – August 17, 2009 – On September 18-20, Ferrari North America will provide spectators of their Ferrari Challenge racing series with an opportunity to experience a Ferrari racing adventure, otherwise known as a “hot lap.” For a minimum donation of $100 to After-School All-Stars (ASAS), a national nonprofit that provides after-school programs to middle school youth, spectators can ride as a passenger in one of the racing Ferraris while a professional driver speeds around the New Jersey Motorsports Park track at more than 100 miles per hour.

NHL Player Patrice Brisebois Races to Help Inner City Kids
Los Angeles, CA – August 4, 2009 – In support of After-School All-Stars (ASAS), a nonprofit organization that provides after-school programs to middle school youth, Ferrari North American provided spectators of their Ferrari Challenge racing series with an opportunity to experience a Ferrari racing adventure, otherwise known as a “hot lap.” For a donation of $100 to ASAS, spectators of the recent July 25-26 Mont Tremblant race rode as a passenger while renowned National Hockey League player and Stanley Cup winner Patrice Brisebois sped around the track at more than 100 miles per hour.

After-School All-Stars Gives Back for Global Youth Service Day
Los Angeles, CA - May 1, 2009 - After-School All-Stars, a national charity founded 17 years ago by Arnold Schwarzenegger that provides after-school programs to at-risk middle school students, will be coordinating a national effort for the 21st Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) on April 24 to 26. Kids from across the country will volunteer their time to improve the well-being of their communities.

New Executive Director of After-School All-Stars San Jose Selected
San Jose, CA - January 7, 2009 - The Board of Directors for the After School All Stars is pleased to announce the appointment of Chuck Salter to the Executive Director position for the San Jose Greater chapter.
Chuck Salter began his career in youth development and education reform over a decade ago teaching middle school in East Palo Alto as a member of the nationally acclaimed Teach For America organization. During his three years in the classroom, not only did Chuck focus on his students’ academic success, he also served a term as the president of the Ravenswood Teachers’ Association, working to increase the active engagement of the Association’s members. Outside of the classroom, Chuck recognized the need for comprehensive after school opportunities for the children of East Palo Alto. He was an original founder of the Ravenswood Soccer Club in 1999, which today has grown into the Ravenswood Youth Athletic Association, serving kids throughout that community.

John Poch, Executive Director of After-School All-Stars San Jose steps up to new challenge
San Jose, CA – January 6, 2009 – John Poch, Executive Director of the After-School All-Stars (ASAS) of Greater San Jose announced he would be resigning his position at the close of the year to become the Deputy Director of Athletics at San Jose State University. As a graduate of San Jose State University, John has stayed close to his roots over the years incorporating programs for ASAS on the SJSU campus and the Greater San Jose area.

Five NFL Players Tackle New Defensive Strategy: Helping Inner City Kids
Los Angeles, CA – September 17, 2008 - As children all over the country head back to school and football players return to the field, five superstars have pledged to donate $1,000 to After-School All-Stars every time each makes a sack on the field. The “After-School Sack Attack” program was launched last season by San Diego Charger’s linebacker Shaun Phillips and kicks off the 2008 season with five defenders and counting.

After-School All-Stars NY to receive $6MM over five years
New York, NY – July 8, 2008 – After-School All-Stars, a national organization focused on after-school programming for at-risk youth, announced today that After-School All-Stars New York (ASASNY) has been awarded two 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grants from New York State Department of Education totaling $6 million in renewable funding over five years. The grants mark the first major funding allotment awarded to ASASNY from the State of New York.

Olympic hopeful teenager from San Jose one step closer to Beijing after taking bronze medal in judo at the Pan-American Games

Kobe Bryant to instruct South Florida's After-School All-Stars during basketlball clinic
Miami, FL – February 4, 2008 – Middle school students participating in South Florida’s After-School All-Stars programs will soon have a chance to show off their basketball skills for one of the NBA’s most talented professional basketball players. Kobe Bryant, a newly appointed After-School All-Stars Ambassador and shooting guard for the LA Lakers, will dribble his way to Centennial Middle School where he will instruct 120 students at a basketball clinic on February 9. With donated Nike basketball equipment from Kobe and his guidance, the students will work on improving their basketball abilities as they rotate though eight activity stations that touch on skills such as rebounding, agility drills, passing, and jump shots. A few rounds of basketball “Knock-Out” led by Bryant are also slated for the afternoon clinic.

Kobe Bryant to recognize high academic achievers during After-School All-Stars Orlando rally at Amway Arena
Orlando, FL – February 1, 2008 – NBA star Kobe Bryant will help the City of Orlando celebrate the achievements of middle-school “Oscar” academic honor students on February 7, 2008. The newly appointed After-School All-Stars Ambassador will address over one thousand Orlando middle-school students during an event at Amway Arena. Bryant will also be presented with a key to the city by Mayor Buddy Dyer and Commissioner Betty T. Wyman, newly elected President, CEO and Executive Director of ASAS Orlando, and will discuss the importance of after-school programs during a question and answer session with the students.
