Over the past two decades Dax has served youth as a counselor, teacher, afterschool program director, trainer, coach, mentor, and curriculum designer.
Through his college retention work over the last six years, he’s built, overseen and evaluated innovative student-centered programs at some of the nation’s most distinguished colleges and universities, and replicated proven models in cities across the country. As a high-level staff member at the Posse Foundation he helped negotiate the challenges and opportunities that rapid growth and expansion presents.
As a teacher, Dax taught English Language Arts at IS 311 middle school in East New York. He also taught history and media studies at Urban Assembly Media high and East Side Community School, both in Manhattan. Finally, At Bank Street College of Education he led the instructional design team and managed the school’s VISTA training team partnership with the Corporation for National Service in the innovation, policy and research department.
The author of five books and a journalist who’s written for the likes of Time and the New York Times, Dax has built his capacity to craft and execute both long-term and deadline-specific projects. As a facilitator and lecturer everywhere from college campuses to prisons, he’s gained competence communicating with diverse audiences, large and small.
Dax was formally educated at Washington, D.C.’s Sidwell Friends School, received his BA from Rutgers University, and his JD from George Washington University. As a New York City Teaching Fellow, he also studied Secondary Education at Brooklyn College.
