CHICAGO (August 9, 2013) — After-School All-Stars today announced the successful completion of their five-day STEM CampUs summer camp that took place on July 29 – August 2 in Chicago. With a sponsorship from Chicago-based global quantitative trading firm Teza, After-School All-Stars hosted 40 students from the Chicago area at the Illinois Institute of Technology for an immersive middle- to high-school transition program designed for students to experience and explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers.

Teza CEO Misha Malyshev said, “CampUs, including the students’ visit to our Teza offices, far exceeded my highest hopes and at the end of the camp, my only disappointment was that it was over. Needless to say, we at Teza plan to sponsor CampUs Chicago next year.”

CampUs participants had exhibited early warning signs for dropping out in high school, which led to their selection for this intensive intervention and support program. At CampUs, students learned to navigate the unique Chicago high school application and selection process, and discovered STEM career possibilities through field trips and interviews with professionals. Students also created their own businesses, explored Chicago and built relationships with role model-mentors, including Teza employee volunteers.

After-School All-Stars CEO Ben Paul said, “Misha and Teza are clearly committed to helping support the work of After-School All-Stars and we are delighted that they are as happy with CampUs Chicago as we are. We look forward to working together in the future.”
